The relations between the EU and the IMO are not a thoroughly researched topic, with only few pieces in academic literature attempting to shed light in their interaction; this is possibly due to the fact that the EU does not have a permanent member status at the IMO, but rather only an observer status (Wouters et al. 2009). In this paper, George Dikaios aims to explore the interplay between the EU and the IMO regarding the adoption of the Initial Strategy on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from ships.
